Development Director – Lead Fundraising Strategy

About the role

For The People (FTP) seeks a Development Director to shape and execute its fundraising strategy during a period of rapid growth. Reporting to the CEO, you will drive donor engagement, expand funding streams, and strengthen the organization’s development function.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement the annual fundraising strategy aligned with FTP’s strategic priorities and long‑term sustainability.
• Identify and cultivate diverse funding sources, including foundations, individuals, corporations, and public‑sector partners.
• Lead major donor and institutional funder relationships, overseeing solicitation, stewardship, and renewal.
• Develop compelling grant proposals, applications, and impact reports in partnership with communications and program teams.
• Build and manage development systems, revenue forecasting, grant tracking, and donor reporting.
• Oversee a development team, external consultants, and coordinate with senior staff to ensure cohesive donor engagement.

Required profile

• 9+ years of progressive nonprofit development or fundraising experience.
• Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree a plus) and a proven record of growing and diversifying philanthropic revenue.
• Demonstrated leadership managing staff and collaborating with executive leadership.
• Strong track record of securing major gifts from foundations, individuals, corporations, and government sources.
• Passion for FTP’s mission to reduce excessive sentences and advance criminal‑justice equity.

Required skills

• Salesforce CRM for fundraising.
• Familiarity with GrantHub (preferred).

What we offer

• Salary range $135,000–$155,000, commensurate with experience.
