Designer II – Existing Building Reuse

About the role

Perkins Eastman is seeking a Designer II to join its Los Angeles team, focusing on the renewal and adaptive reuse of existing buildings, including historic structures. The role involves collaborating across all project phases, from feasibility studies to construction administration.

Key responsibilities

• Work directly with Los Angeles‑based teams on a variety of existing building typologies.
• Engage with clients and consultants, participating in meetings and presentations.
• Develop detailed construction drawings and documentation.
• Perform site investigations and building crawls to verify existing conditions.
• Research historic documentation, public records, and imagery to inform design decisions.

Required profile

• 3–8 years of experience in existing building renewal and revitalization.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture.
• Experience on project teams focused on existing building programs, concept development, and documentation.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• LEED accreditation preferred.
• Passed the ARE or plans to complete it soon.
• Commitment to sustainable design principles, including Net Zero Carbon and Energy.
• Versatile, self‑motivated, and articulate with a passion for impactful design.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Revit.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with visualization software.
