Data Engineer – Health Data Platform

About the role

We are looking to hire a Data Engineer to join our team as we build the data backbone for a mental and behavioral health practice. This role will build the platform that turns appointments, assessments, billing, and patient engagement data into the metrics our clinical and operations teams rely on.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the orchestration layer using Dagster assets, jobs, schedules, sensors, and the dependency graph.
• Add new data sources to the pipeline; extract from GraphQL/REST APIs, Google Drive, CSV/JSONL on S3, and land them in bronze schemas.
• Build silver and gold dbt models following a medallion architecture to create a unified entity model.
• Extend the semantic layer so business metrics are available to downstream consumers without re‑deriving logic.
• Operate the platform on AWS (ECS Fargate, RDS, S3, Secrets Manager, CloudFormation) and manage CI/CD pipelines.
• Write tests (pytest, dbt tests) and contribute to internal documentation as new patterns emerge.

Required profile

• 4‑7 years of professional experience building and operating data pipelines in production.
• Ability to own end‑to‑end data product requests from scoping with non‑technical stakeholders to delivery.
• Strong Python coding skills, including modular, testable code and debugging async/orchestrated pipelines.
• Solid SQL expertise, including window functions, CTEs (recursive), and performance optimization.
• Hands‑on experience with dbt for model building, testing, and materializations.
• Experience with an orchestration framework such as Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect.
• Comfort with AWS fundamentals (S3, IAM, Secrets Manager, ECS or Lambda).
• Proficiency with Git‑based workflows, code reviews, and pull requests.

What we offer

• Base salary range $119,000–$185,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
