Data Center Technician

About the role

Google’s Hardware Operations team is looking for a Data Center Technician to install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain server hardware and related software in a state‑of‑the‑art data center environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, test and maintain servers, components and Google’s Linux cluster software.
• Configure and troubleshoot networking equipment such as routers, switches, hubs and bridges, and associated networking protocols.
• Perform component‑level repairs on technical equipment.
• Participate in or lead small project teams for larger installations and develop contingency plans.
• Manually move and install rack units, often requiring physical effort.

Required profile

• Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
• Experience performing component‑level repairs on technical equipment.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lb (23 kg) and sustain physical activity such as bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling.
• Willingness to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays and shift‑based schedules.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience; Google IT Support Professional Certificate; at least 2 years of relevant experience; prior work in a data‑center or network‑operations environment; experience in roles such as Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer or Help Desk Technician.
