Customer Service Associate

About the role

We are looking for a Customer Service Associate to provide fast, courteous checkout service in a grocery environment. The associate will handle transactions, assist customers, and maintain a clean, efficient front‑end operation.

Key responsibilities

• Create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages customer confidence and loyalty.
• Address and resolve customer issues or complaints promptly, escalating to management when necessary.
• Stock and restock front‑end products, manage supplies efficiently, and keep the checkout lane organized.
• Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system and process a variety of payment types, including cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, coupons, and reward offers.
• Handle service‑desk transactions such as Western Union, money orders, and utility payments.
• Coordinate daily cash handling, reconcile registers, and follow company cash‑shortage/overage policies.
• Open, monitor, and close self‑checkout lanes, generate required reports, and perform cash maintenance.
• Troubleshoot front‑end equipment issues using self‑help tools or the retail service help desk.
• Enforce safety, sanitation, and food‑handling standards, and execute product recalls or withdrawals.
• Report safety risks, accidents, and any illegal activity to store management.

• Ability to remain calm and composed while handling high‑volume checkout situations.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to follow company policies and safety regulations.
• Team player who can assist in training new cashiers.

Required skills

• Proficiency with POS system operation.
• Accurate cash handling and reconciliation.
• Experience processing various payment methods (cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, coupons).
• Basic computer troubleshooting for front‑end equipment.
• Inventory restocking and supply management.
