Custodian 2 – Campus Cleaning Specialist

About the role

The Custodian 2 works as part of the university’s custodial crew, keeping indoor and outdoor facilities clean, sanitary, and safe for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing, and polishing across offices, classrooms, labs, residence hall lobbies, bathrooms, stairwells, elevators, and hallways.
• Empty trash and recycling containers, transport waste, and handle bio‑hazardous materials according to written standards.
• Mix and apply cleaning solutions at proper concentrations, decontaminate waste containers, and deodorize as needed.
• Conduct floor maintenance including stripping, waxing, polishing, carpet extraction, stain removal, and operation of flood pumps.
• Move and rearrange furniture, lab equipment, and set up tables, chairs, partitions, and signage for special events.
• Wash building exteriors, windows, walls, steps, and sidewalks using power washers, pressure sprayers, commercial window‑washing equipment, ladders, scaffolds, and hydraulic man‑lifts.

Required profile

• Ability to perform manual labor and lift moderate loads safely.
• Willingness to work with a variety of cleaning chemicals and follow safety procedures.
• Capability to handle hazardous and bio‑hazardous waste in accordance with university guidelines.

Required skills

• Operation of commercial vacuums and carpet‑extraction equipment.
• Floor stripping, waxing, and polishing techniques.
• Use of power washers, pressure sprayers, and window‑washing tools.
• Safe handling of ladders, scaffolds, and hydraulic man‑lifts.
