Criminal Law Paralegal

About the role

An established Southwest Louisiana law firm is opening a new office in Lafayette and needs an experienced Criminal Law Paralegal to support its litigation team. This full‑time position offers the chance to shape the new office’s processes while working on a variety of criminal cases.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive paralegal support throughout all stages of criminal litigation.
• Assist attorneys with case preparation, discovery, pleadings, motions, and trial preparation.
• Organize and maintain case files, documentation, and calendars.
• Conduct legal research and help draft legal documents.
• Coordinate communication with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other parties.
• Support attorneys during trial and other courtroom activities.
• Manage deadlines, calendars, and case‑related tasks.
• Perform additional administrative and litigation support as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of paralegal experience, specifically in criminal law litigation.
• Prior trial experience is required.
• Strong knowledge of criminal litigation procedures and court processes.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and detail‑oriented skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Self‑motivated and capable of working independently.
