About the role
The State of Georgia’s Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Criminal Investigator to focus on Organized Retail Crime (ORC). This full‑time position supports the Prosecution Division by investigating, documenting, and preparing cases for prosecution against retail‑theft related offenses.
Key responsibilities
- Screen and investigate allegations of criminal wrongdoing within the agency’s jurisdiction.
- Obtain and execute search and arrest warrants, ensuring proper chain of custody.
- Collect, review, and evaluate physical and electronic evidence, including asset seizure when applicable.
- Conduct interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects and gather intelligence.
- Prepare thorough case reports, interview documentation, and evidence logs.
- Provide accurate courtroom testimony and assist prosecutors with pre‑trial coordination.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of trends and legal developments related to organized retail crime.
Required profile
- Law‑enforcement or investigative background with ability to conduct arrests and execute warrants.
- Strong understanding of legal procedures, evidence handling, and courtroom protocols.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and testimony.
- Ability to work under general supervision while exercising independent judgment.
Required skills
- Proficiency with computer software for creating databases, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Experience analyzing physical and electronic evidence.
