Criminal Investigator – Level 2 or 3

About the role

The Georgia Department of Revenue’s Office of Special Investigations is seeking sworn law‑enforcement professionals to serve as Criminal Investigator 2 or 3. In this role you will protect state resources, support workforce safety, and conduct sensitive investigations across the agency.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct criminal, administrative and internal investigations.
• Perform comprehensive pre‑employment and employee background investigations.
• Obtain fingerprints and process employment‑related criminal history records using Livescan technology.
• Prepare detailed investigative reports and maintain case documentation.
• Coordinate with local, state and federal law‑enforcement partners.
• Support physical security initiatives for department facilities and assets.

Required profile

• Georgia P.O.S.T.-certified law‑enforcement officer.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative investigative team.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for report preparation and inter‑agency coordination.
• Willingness to be assigned to a specific district and report to a Criminal Investigator Supervisor or Manager of Investigations.

Required skills

• Experience with Livescan fingerprinting technology.
