About the role

The Clayton Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking an entry‑level Criminal Investigator to support defense teams in felony cases. You will work closely with attorneys to gather and analyze evidence, interview clients and witnesses, and build strong defense strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct client interviews, witness location, and on‑scene investigations.
• Collect, preserve, and analyze physical and documentary evidence.
• Prepare detailed investigative reports and case updates.
• Collaborate with attorneys to develop defense theories and evidence packages.
• Maintain accurate records and perform background checks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program, **or** two years of law‑enforcement experience with Georgia POST certification.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Strong judgment, decision‑making ability, and effective communication skills.
• Capacity to build productive relationships with attorneys, clients, agencies, and the public.
