County Director 5 – Child Welfare Services

About the role

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) is hiring a County Director 5, Child Welfare Services for Savannah, Chatham County. The position leads the administration of child welfare programs, ensuring safety and service provision for children and families while managing a Class 5 County DFCS office.

Key responsibilities

• Direct subordinate managers and staff, overseeing daily operations of child welfare services.
• Analyze program effectiveness and ensure outcome measures are achieved.
• Ensure agency compliance with policies, documentation, and reporting requirements.
• Develop and administer budgets and manage human‑resource functions.
• Build cooperative relationships with community partners, the county DFCS Board, and other agencies.
• Interview, hire, train, evaluate, and, when necessary, discipline social services employees.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Five years of experience, including three years managing subordinate managers/supervisors in a human‑service delivery program, or three years at the County Director 4 level or equivalent.
