About the role

The Correctional Officer Trainee program provides a three‑month on‑the‑job training experience in security and custodial duties for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Trainees will learn essential correctional skills and complete a formal ceremony to receive certificates, badges, and the Oath of Office.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in formalized security and custodial training at the IDOC Training Academy.
  • Maintain physical fitness standards required for screening and daily duties.
  • Complete pre‑service security training and attend the graduation ceremony to receive certification.

Required profile

  • Physically fit and able to meet screening requirements prior to training.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis; no visa sponsorship provided.
  • Bilingual skills are welcome but not required.
