Corporate Income Tax Auditor

About the role

The South Carolina Department of Revenue is seeking a Corporate Income Tax Auditor to join its team of professionals. In this role you will examine the tax filings of large multi‑state corporations operating in South Carolina, ensuring compliance with state corporate income tax and license fee regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct electronic and field audits of books, records, and tax returns for large multi‑state corporations.
• Analyze federal and South Carolina corporate income tax returns, including those of banks and savings institutions.
• Prepare audit workpapers, write‑ups, proposed assessments, and support appeals and litigation as needed.
• Research and apply federal and state tax laws and regulations to audit issues.
• Prepare delinquent returns for non‑filers and draft professional audit reports detailing adjustment justifications.
• Communicate audit findings clearly to taxpayers and their representatives.

Required profile

• Mid‑level auditor with experience handling multi‑state corporate returns.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and professional communication skills.
• Motivation to build a long‑term career within a government agency.
• Ability to adapt to evolving tax laws and industry practices through continuous research.

Required skills
