About the role
We are looking for a co‑op student to join Philips’ manufacturing engineering team in Latham, NY, from January to August 2027. This paid position offers hands‑on experience with cryogenic and superconducting systems in a health‑technology environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues related to cryogenic and superconducting equipment.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to develop and implement design solutions.
- Conduct experiments and tests to evaluate prototype performance and reliability.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate measurements.
Required profile
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, or related engineering.
- Hands‑on laboratory experience, including setting up and executing test protocols.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and standards in a lab environment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to documentation.
Required skills
- 3D modeling and engineering design tools.
- Understanding of mechanical systems, thermal systems, heat transfer, cryogenics, and vacuum systems.
- Basic circuit knowledge and experience developing circuits or programming controllers.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical issues and calibrating lab equipment.
