Controller – Manufacturing Cost Accounting

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead core accounting activities for our manufacturing operations in South Lyon, Michigan. The role is pivotal for cost visibility, inventory accuracy, and timely financial reporting, working closely with production, operations, and supply‑chain teams.

Key responsibilities

• Direct month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close cycles to deliver accurate financial results on schedule.
• Supervise general ledger activity, reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Own product and project cost tracking, evaluating labor, materials, overhead and related expenses.
• Assess margin performance, cost fluctuations and operational trends, presenting insights to leadership.
• Oversee inventory accounting, including valuation methods, standard cost maintenance, count procedures and reserve analysis.
• Reconcile inventory balances regularly and investigate discrepancies with operational teams.
• Prepare financial statements, management reporting packages and performance metrics tied to production and inventory.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cost projections and assist with audits and internal control improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of accounting processes.
• Hands‑on experience with job costing and inventory accounting in a manufacturing or project‑driven environment.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting concepts and account reconciliation practices.
• Effective communication and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate across functions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP platforms such as Oracle, Epicor, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite or Plex.
• Advanced Excel capabilities, including large data set analysis, functions and pivot tables.
• Experience with cost accounting, job costing and inventory accounting processes.
