Controller

About the role

The Controller oversees, organizes, plans, directs and evaluates the accounting and finance functions of the team, covering accounting, internal and external financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, forecasting, financial analysis, variance analysis and financial projects. The role also supports budgeting and league reporting and ensures financial policies, procedures and internal controls are followed.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the monthly forecasting process and prepare monthly reports for leadership, including variance analyses.
• Support the annual budget, including timelines, tracking and a GAAP-aligned budget.
• Ensure accurate, complete and timely monthly closing and general ledger reconciliations.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and treasury, including vendor invoice review and payment authorization.
• Interface with payroll on completeness, GL posting and withholding payments, and prepare salary forecasts and the annual salary budget.
• Monitor and evaluate accounting staff, including hiring, coaching and disciplinary actions.
• Lead the annual financial audit and the annual revenue sharing audit, and assist the VP of Finance with financial data requests.
• Assist with league reporting, create financial policies and improve financial processes.
• Provide financial reporting to the IHI tax department, review sales and use tax payments and returns, and support capital budgeting and ROI analysis.
• Lead and develop the finance and accounting team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
• Minimum 10 years of broad financial and accounting experience in a dynamic, diversified service organization; sports and live entertainment experience preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP, and of internal and external financial reporting.
• Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and ERP system skills.
