Commissioning Editor – Collections Management & Acquisitions

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking a Commissioning Editor to lead the development of Topical Collections for its Open Access journals. The role focuses on attracting high‑quality, commissioned content and shaping the growth of the Open Access portfolio through data‑driven topic selection.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize topics for Topical Collections using business insights and editorial expertise.
• Collaborate with Editorial Board members, data scientists, and analysts to ensure data‑driven topic selection.
• Recruit and engage high‑profile researchers as Guest Editors or authors for collections.
• Develop and execute commissioning strategies for key journals across the Springer Nature portfolio.
• Manage the end‑to‑end commissioning process, from concept to publication.

Required profile

• Proven experience in editorial or commissioning roles within academic publishing.
• Strong ability to work with data and analytics to inform editorial decisions.
• Excellent communication skills for outreach to researchers and editorial boards.
• Demonstrated track record of attracting high‑quality content and managing editorial projects.
