College Work‑Study Literacy Tutor (Community Service)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated student to join our Literacy Partnership as a work‑study tutor. The role supports elementary‑school students in Laredo by delivering literacy lessons and fostering a positive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Attend required trainings and stay updated on tutoring methods.
• Design and implement literacy lessons using provided curriculum and materials.
• Maintain accurate records of each student’s progress.
• Keep the tutoring center organized and promote a welcoming atmosphere.
• Collaborate with fellow tutors, teachers, and school partners to advance the program’s mission.

Required profile

• Enrolled at least half‑time (6 credit hours for undergraduates, 3 for graduates).
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate).
• Current, complete file with the Office of Financial Aid and a FAFSA demonstrating financial need.
• U.S. citizen, permanent resident, eligible non‑citizen, or holder of an alien registration number.
• Compliance with Texas A&M International University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard computer software and basic workstation operations.
• Strong written and spoken English communication.
• Ability to organize tasks, meet deadlines, and provide excellent customer service.
