Clinical Social Worker – Behavioral Health Optimization (BHOP)

About the role

The Behavioral Health Optimization Program (BHOP) seeks a Clinical Social Worker to provide mental health services on‑site at Misawa, Aomori, Japan. You will work within a specialty mental health clinic or patient‑centered medical home, delivering brief cognitive‑behavioral interventions under the Air Force consultation model.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual, family, group, and couples psychotherapy, as well as alcohol and drug treatment evaluations.
• Maintain accurate clinical notes in mental health, inpatient, and electronic medical records.
• Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders, and school districts as required.
• Participate in mandatory military‑specific training, including security clearance procedures, PTSD and combat stress education, and Air Force Phase I & II BHC training.
• Deliver brief (15‑30 minute) cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care settings, following the Air Force BHOP Practice Manual.
• Efficiently manage appointments, confirming consultation issues and engaging patients promptly.

Required profile

• Ability to function in a specialty mental health clinic or patient‑centered medical home.
• Willingness to work onsite in Misawa, Japan, and comply with all local security, safety, and access policies.
• Capability to maintain thorough documentation and produce required evaluation reports.
• Readiness to complete Air Force‑provided Phase I and Phase II BHC training.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including medical and legal professionals.
