Civil Engineer - Municipal/Public Works

About the role

At Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), we are seeking a Civil Engineer to design, enhance, and maintain municipal and public‑works infrastructure. The role involves planning, designing, and overseeing construction of water, wastewater, stormwater, and roadway projects that improve community quality of life.

Key responsibilities

• Design and permit municipal/public works projects using AutoCAD and other design software, covering water supply, treatment, distribution, storage, sanitary sewer, roadway, streetscape, drainage studies, and stormwater management.
• Assist local municipalities with plan reviews, project planning, and coordination with regulatory agencies.
• Prepare funding applications, reports, studies, and grant documentation for infrastructure projects.
• Perform construction administration duties, including procurement, submittal review, pay requisition, change order evaluation, and funding disbursement requests.
• Attend municipal meetings and public hearings, and coordinate permitting with local agencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience in municipal engineering.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Ability to market and work with municipalities and regulatory agencies.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license in Maryland or Delaware, or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire.
