About the role
This unpaid internship with the Department of Peace Operations supports the Civil Affairs Team in New York. It offers a hands‑on opportunity to contribute to policy research, drafting, data collection and analysis that underpin UN peacekeeping missions.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in research and drafting of Civil Affairs policy, guidance and practice surveys covering local peacebuilding, community engagement, youth, peace and security, and quick‑impact projects.
- Prepare reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles, newsletters and other communication materials.
- Capture lessons learned, identify good practices and document guidance gaps from Civil Affairs components in peacekeeping missions.
- Develop communication and advocacy products, including visual aids and presentation materials, to illustrate Civil Affairs contributions to mandate implementation.
Required profile
- Strong interest in civil affairs, peacekeeping and international policy.
- Excellent research, writing and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work full‑time on United Nations premises in New York, with flexibility for part‑time or remote arrangements if needed.
