Childcare Provider

About the role

Essie Justice Group is seeking compassionate childcare providers to support women with incarcerated loved ones during evening program sessions in Oakland. The role ensures children are cared for in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment, enabling participants to fully engage in the cohort.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑site childcare for cohort participants during weekly evening sessions.
• Create and maintain stimulating, age‑appropriate activities and environments, including snack preparation.
• Follow risk‑management protocols to safeguard physical and emotional well‑being of children.
• Facilitate age‑appropriate group discussions about the justice system.
• Track attendance, document daily activities, and report to the Childcare Coordinator.
• Travel to all cohort locations and attend additional meetings as required.
• Maintain communication via personal phone and coordinate schedule changes.
• Present valid CPR/First Aid certification upon hire.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in youth or childcare settings.
• Strong commitment to Essie Justice Group’s mission and values.
• Ability to build one‑on‑one relationships with children of varying ages.
• Comfort discussing justice‑system topics with youth.
• Reliable transportation and availability to work in Oakland.

Required skills

• CPR/First Aid certification.
