Chief of Staff

About the role

JustFix is seeking a full‑time Chief of Staff to act as a strategic partner to the Executive Director and help steer the organization’s core operations. This senior role blends high‑level strategic thinking with hands‑on execution to ensure the nonprofit runs efficiently while advancing its mission.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Executive Director on priorities and key decisions.
• Lead internal planning and execution across HR, finance, communications, and cross‑functional operations.
• Coordinate with the Board of Directors, preparing meetings, drafting governance documents, and supporting board actions.
• Manage the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, benefits, compensation updates, leave administration, performance management, recruitment, and contractor hiring.
• Oversee monthly payroll, compensation adjustments, and union dues processing via Justworks PEO.
• Act as the primary liaison for day‑to‑day implementation of the collective bargaining agreement, including communication with union representatives.
• Partner with the Board and Executive Director on labor‑management meetings, bargaining preparation, and agreement implementation.
• Ensure HR policies and procedures align with the collective bargaining agreement and applicable employment laws.
• Foster an inclusive, high‑performing culture through thoughtful people practices and internal communications.

Required profile

• Agile, systems‑minded nonprofit professional who thrives in a “wear‑many‑hats” environment.
• Proven ability to solve complex organizational challenges and balance strategic planning with detailed execution.
• Experience working with union‑represented staff and collective bargaining agreements is highly desirable.
• Strong collaborative skills for partnering with staff, consultants, funders, government agencies, and community organizations.

• Salary range $90,000 – $105,000 per year
• Full‑time, remote‑friendly position based in New York
