Chief of Service, Audit

About the role

The Chief of Service, Audit leads the substantive work programme and resources of the Headquarters Audit Service within the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services. Reporting to the Director of the Internal Audit Division, the role ensures high‑quality audit outputs and effective collaboration with UN entities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop an annual risk‑based audit plan for the Service’s activities.
• Manage execution of the audit plan, ensuring efficient use of human and financial resources in line with approved work plans, budgets, OIOS policies and internal audit standards.
• Lead team efforts to collect, analyse and interpret data, providing insights for data‑driven planning and reporting.
• Assist the Director in establishing operating guidelines, internal audit manuals and lines of authority.
• Foster collaborative relationships with client entities to increase relevance and impact of audit outputs.
• Identify resource requirements for staffing strategies and budget requests.
• Represent the Service within the United Nations and external organisations as required.
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Director to ensure efficient implementation of IAD programmes.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in auditing, finance, business administration, accounting or a related field; a first‑level degree plus two years of experience may be accepted.
• Professional certification such as CPA, CA, CIA, CISA or equivalent is desirable.
• Minimum fifteen years of progressively responsible auditing experience, including at least five years at a management level.
• Experience in field operations and data analytics is desirable.
• Fluency in English; French is also a working language of the UN Secretariat.
