Chief of Section, ICT Audit (Temporary)

About the role

The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) is seeking a senior professional to lead the ICT Audit Section on a temporary basis. Reporting to the Director of the Internal Audit Division, the Chief of Section will provide assurance and advisory services across United Nations entities.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the annual risk assessment for a portfolio of UN clients and maintain up‑to‑date risk registers.
• Develop and implement medium‑ and long‑term goals, annual audit work plans and resource allocations for the Section.
• Plan, organize and coordinate multiple concurrent audit and advisory engagements, defining scope and objectives for each.
• Manage human and financial resources, ensuring compliance with OIOS standards and global internal‑audit best practices.
• Review working papers, audit reports and advisory communications, providing guidance on technical and administrative matters.
• Lead complex, sensitive audits and advisory missions, analysing data to identify trends and support decision‑making.
• Monitor implementation of audit recommendations and liaise with internal audit functions of other UN bodies.
• Maintain constructive relationships with auditees, senior officials and external oversight organisations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in internal audit, preferably within large international organisations.
• Proven leadership and team‑management capabilities, with responsibility for budgeting and resource planning.
• Strong knowledge of UN internal‑audit standards, risk‑assessment methodologies and audit‑reporting practices.
• Ability to interact effectively with senior management, government officials and technical experts.
• Excellent analytical skills and experience in data‑driven audit planning.
