Chief Editor – BMC Biomedical Engineering

About the role

The Chief Editor will shape the direction of the new BMC Biomedical Engineering journal and act as its ambassador within the biology research community. This senior position involves creating and implementing strategies to maximise the journal’s visibility, scientific standing and impact.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing editorial team, overseeing day‑to‑day workloads and ensuring manuscripts are processed according to journal policies and timelines.
• Define and execute the journal’s strategic plan to increase visibility, scientific standing and impact.
• Recruit, onboard and engage external Editorial Board members, building professional networks that support the journal’s objectives.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including production, marketing and sales, to promote the journal and attract high‑quality submissions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in academic publishing, preferably in biomedical or health‑science fields.
• Strong leadership and team‑building abilities with a track record of managing editorial teams.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to act as an ambassador for the journal within research communities.
