Chemist II – Oligonucleotide Synthesis (RNA)

About the role

The Chemist II will support RNA oligonucleotide synthesis and downstream processing in our Consumer Products Services division. Working with state‑of‑the‑art synthesizers and analytical instruments, the role involves hands‑on laboratory work, data analysis and training of new staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform oligo synthesis, cleavage, de‑protection, purification, desalting and annealing using Dr. Oligo and MerMade 192 synthesizers.
• Operate and maintain downstream automation (Lynx liquid handler) and analytical platforms such as AKTA, LC‑MS, UPLC, LTQ, QDA and Nanodrop.
• Prepare solutions, conduct bioconjugation of single‑strand oligonucleotides and document experiments in electronic lab notebooks.
• Review scientific literature to stay current on oligonucleotide modifications and propose technical improvements.
• Train new team members and assist with general lab maintenance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related field.
• At least one year of experience with oligonucleotide chemistry or plate‑based automation development.
• Strong organizational and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with oligonucleotide synthesizers (Dr. Oligo, MerMade 192).
• Proficiency with automation instruments (Tecan, Lynx, Dispendix, Hamilton, Beckman).
• Use of analytical equipment: AKTA, Agilent LC‑MS, UPLC, Vanquish LTQ, Waters QDA, Nanodrop.
• Data analysis using statistical tools and software (Microsoft Office, LIMS, ELN).
