Chaplain (PRN) – Jeff Hwy

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a part‑time Chaplain to provide spiritual care on the Jeff Hwy campus. The chaplain will serve patients, families, staff and visitors across assigned units and respond to emergent calls, including end‑of‑life situations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide presence, comfort and spiritual support during crises, deaths and routine care on assigned units.
• Coordinate and lead interfaith rituals and services as requested by hospital leadership.
• Assist families and staff with decedent care administrative tasks following patient deaths.
• Mentor new spiritual care staff and Clinical Pastoral Education students.

Required profile

• Master’s in Divinity or equivalent, with board endorsement.
• Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE or ICPT).
• At least one year of interfaith, culturally competent spiritual care experience in a healthcare setting.
• Board certification (preferred) from professional chaplaincy organizations.

Required skills

• Knowledge of diverse philosophical and religious systems and ability to engage in ethical dialogue.
• Working knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts.
• Computer proficiency for data entry and use of Windows‑style applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication for interacting with varied audiences.
