Cash Ops Specialist

About the role

The Cash Ops Specialist role is an entry‑level position responsible for receipt, processing, validation, destruction and payout of currency and coin in a highly controlled, regulated and secure environment at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Key responsibilities

• Pay and receive currency/coin to depository institutions and operate high‑speed currency equipment while meeting production standards and strict procedural controls.
• Balance deposits and process financial accounting transactions using specialized accounting and inventory systems.
• Navigate complex inventory tracking to record transfers, account for differences, and maintain accurate physical and automated counts.
• Obtain and maintain counterfeit certification and conduct manual inspections to detect altered notes.
• Transfer and store large volumes of currency and coin using material‑handling equipment, ensuring custody and accountability.
• Receive training and certification to operate pallet jacks, lifts, stackers, and other handling equipment.
• Identify and report control exceptions, equipment problems, and perform routine mechanical repairs on verification machines after training.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least one year of related experience in banking, cash handling, warehousing, customer service, manufacturing, or a production environment.
• Physical ability to push equipment weighing up to 800 lb and repeatedly lift 40‑60 lb.
• Capability to stand for extended periods.
• Basic math, accounting and balancing skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office (preferred).
• Basic 10‑key keypad skills (preferred).
