Case Management Intern – Preferred Communities (Unpaid)

About the role

The Preferred Communities (PC) Program at the International Rescue Committee provides case management to the most vulnerable refugee groups in New York City. As a Case Management Intern, you will support a PC Case Manager in delivering essential services to clients, gaining hands‑on experience in refugee resettlement and social services.

Key responsibilities

• Assist clients in accessing benefits and services, such as attending medical appointments and navigating public transportation.
• Provide administrative support, including making referrals for additional services and maintaining client files.
• Collaborate with the assigned Case Manager to manage a specific caseload and ensure timely follow‑up.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or holder of U.S. work authorization, based in the United States.
• Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program or graduated within the last two years.
• Undergraduate or graduate studies in social sciences, international relations, or a related field.
• Strong desire to support refugees rebuilding their lives in NYC.
• Ability to exercise good judgment, attention to detail, and work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Basic file‑management skills.
