About the role

The Building Inspector conducts comprehensive field inspections of residential and commercial structures in the Houston area, ensuring compliance with all applicable building codes, regulations, and approved plans. The role also supports inspection‑related projects and business‑development activities.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect residential and commercial buildings for code compliance, covering structural, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Research and interpret municipal, state, and national building codes and explain requirements to stakeholders.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, issue correction notices, and document findings with photographs.
• Provide technical assistance to homeowners, contractors, and permit‑issuing authorities.
• Lead or support inspection‑related projects, ensuring timelines, quality, and budget constraints.

Required profile

• Associate degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Inspection or related field (preferred) or high school diploma/GED with 2+ years relevant experience.
• Minimum 2 years journey‑level experience in municipal inspection, construction trades, or general contracting.
• ICC certification (or equivalent) and TSBPE Plumbing Inspector license with a valid Texas driver’s license.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop.
• Digital imaging skills: use of digital cameras and photo‑editing software.
• Technical writing for clear, concise inspection reports.
• Strong verbal communication to convey technical information to non‑technical audiences.
