Board Eligible Physician – Behavioral Health

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a board‑eligible physician to join the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities at Georgia Regional Hospital Atlanta in Decatur. You will provide comprehensive medical and psychiatric care to individuals with behavioral health and developmental disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough medical examinations, psychiatric assessments, and diagnostic evaluations.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management and therapy recommendations.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostics to guide treatment.
• Provide crisis intervention and emergency medical care as needed.
• Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately in the electronic health record system.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, community resources, and support services to ensure coordinated care.

Required profile

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• Completion of an accredited residency in Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related specialty.
• Board eligibility in Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related specialty (board certification preferred).
• Valid, unrestricted Georgia medical license and current DEA registration.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment‑planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for working with diverse patient populations and interdisciplinary teams.
