Behavioral Health Counselor – Skilled Nursing Facility

About the role

Under general supervision, the counselor focuses on prevention and behavior modification, working with individuals and groups to promote optimal mental health. The position is a day‑shift role within the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities at the Gracewood Campus in Augusta, Georgia. Responsibilities may include assisting clients with addictions, substance abuse, family, parenting, marital issues, suicide prevention, stress management, self‑esteem, and aging‑related mental and emotional health concerns.

Key responsibilities

• Provide counseling services emphasizing prevention and behavior modification.
• Work with individuals and groups to promote optimal mental health.
• Assist clients dealing with addictions, substance abuse, family, parenting, marital problems, suicide risk, stress, self‑esteem, and aging‑related issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Two years of relevant job experience, or one year at the lower‑level Behavioral Health Counselor 1 (HCP100) or equivalent.
• May require appropriate certification or licensure as mandated by the position.
