Backend Engineer, Core Product

About the role

Scribe is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join its Core Product Engineering team. You will work on the document‑workflow services that millions rely on daily—viewing, editing, embedding, exporting, and the integrations that connect Scribe to customers' tech stacks.

Key responsibilities

• Build and ship backend features in the Django monolith for core document workflows and new greenfield projects.
• Improve performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive, scalable experiences.
• Incorporate feedback from teammates to continuously grow your craft.
• Write thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and ensure observability and performance.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience building backend applications.
• Solid experience with Python.
• Ability to optimize endpoint performance and database queries.
• Strong advocate for automated testing.
• Familiar with engineering best practices and eager to deepen them.
• User‑centric, empathetic, and passionate about delivering quality work.
