Avionics Engineer

About the role

Cowboy Space Corp is developing space‑based solar power platforms and needs an Avionics Engineer to design, develop, and integrate electrical systems for high‑power laser and optical payloads. This on‑site position in San Carlos, CA will have you working directly with cross‑functional teams to bring the first demonstration satellite to orbit by summer 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and test electrical hardware for laser and optical subsystems, focusing on power management, control, and signal processing.
• Create and maintain schematics, PCB layouts, and harness diagrams for satellite subsystems.
• Integrate and validate electrical hardware with optical components such as detectors, sensors, and laser drivers.
• Perform debugging and ensure robust operation under thermal‑vacuum, vibration, and EMI conditions.
• Collaborate with optics, mechanical, thermal, and software engineers to achieve system‑level functionality.
• Document system requirements, design specifications, and test plans.
• Support environmental testing and participate in internal and customer design reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 1–5 years of electrical design experience, preferably in aerospace, satellite, or optical systems.
• Hands‑on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, soldering stations, laser drivers).
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in a laboratory environment.
