Associate Medical Examiner - Coastal Lab

About the role

The State Medical Examiner's Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is seeking an Associate Medical Examiner to join the Coastal Regional Laboratory in Pooler, GA. This full‑time, onsite position supports forensic pathology services for a large portion of the state, performing autopsies and providing expert analysis for death investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct approximately 725 autopsies per year, determining cause and manner of death.
• Prepare detailed forensic pathology reports for law‑enforcement, district attorneys, and other agencies.
• Provide expert testimony in court proceedings as needed.
• Collaborate with death‑investigation specialists, pediatric pathologists, and the Child Abuse Investigative Support Center.
• Maintain accurate case documentation and adhere to GBI security and drug‑free workplace policies.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification in pathology.
• Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Georgia.
• Experience in forensic pathology or medical examiner duties.
• Ability to pass comprehensive background, credit, driver’s history, polygraph, and drug‑testing investigations.
