Associate General Counsel – Litigation (Atlanta)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking an Associate General Counsel to lead litigation matters. This hybrid position blends on‑site collaboration with statewide travel to support hearings, trainings, and legal proceedings.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the agency in administrative hearings and act as a client to the Department of Law.
• Coordinate and implement due‑process and appeal procedures.
• Develop, oversee, and monitor administrative processes to ensure legal compliance.
• Prepare and coordinate cases for court trials and administrative hearings.
• Implement settlements, agreements, and legal judgments within approved guidelines.
• Draft amendments to contracts, standardized letters, and notices related to legal procedures.
• Provide legal services such as drafting legislation, regulations, and articles.
• Prepare grant and contract proposals and administer contracts with funding agencies.
• Research and analyze legal, policy, and environmental issues.
• Review investigative reports and identify areas requiring further investigation.

Required profile

• Experience in healthcare compliance, privacy, and security program management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance, privacy, and security requirements.
