Associate General Counsel

About the role

Save the Redwoods League (SRL) is seeking an Associate General Counsel to support its mission of protecting California’s redwood forests. Working closely with the General Counsel, this attorney will guide legal, governance, and risk matters across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Provide cross‑functional legal support to all SRL departments, covering IP, conservation transactions, nonprofit law, tribal law, HR, government affairs, insurance, lobbying, litigation, marketing, and commercial contracts.
• Coordinate and oversee outside counsel as needed.
• Assist in drafting, editing, and reviewing templates, contracts, grant agreements, licenses, and other transactional documents.
• Conduct legal research, prepare memoranda, and advise the Board and executive leadership.
• Contribute to internal legal operations, process improvement, and staff training.
• Support corporate compliance and risk management initiatives.

Required profile

• California‑licensed attorney with 7–12 years of experience.
• Demonstrated sound judgment, high integrity, and a pragmatic, solutions‑oriented approach.
• Ability to advise staff, executive leadership, and a Board of Directors of an accredited land trust.
• Strong collaborative skills to work across functions and disciplines.
