Associate Designer – Handbags

About the role

Steve Madden is seeking a creative and detail‑oriented Associate Designer to join its Handbag team. You will be responsible for turning market insights and trend research into compelling handbag collections that resonate with the brand’s target customer.

Key responsibilities

• Create and refine designs using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Communicate directly with factories and overseas teams to source materials and develop samples.
• Attend trade shows, shop retail locations, and conduct research to ensure designs stay on‑trend.
• Develop products from concept to final spec, including CAD presentations, print development, and detailed technical packages.
• Design across categories such as handbags, SLGs, diaper bags, and weekenders while managing your own account.
• Meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment without compromising aesthetic quality.

Required profile

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in CAD and able to redesign existing products.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant design experience.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
