About the role

The Cordele Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office is hiring an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 2) to represent indigent clients in Ben Hill, Crisp, Dooly, and Wilcox counties. This full‑time position provides zealous, ethical defense for criminal matters in Superior Court and contributes to Georgia's commitment to equal justice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide competent, zealous representation for indigent clients charged with criminal offenses.
• Appear before Superior Court, handling hearings, trials, and motions.
• Develop and maintain professional attorney‑client relationships, explaining legal rights and options.
• Conduct legal research, case investigation, and preparation for trial.
• Communicate effectively with courts, prosecutors, investigators, witnesses, and other legal professionals.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the office.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution.
• Active, good‑standing membership in the State Bar of Georgia.
• At least one year of experience practicing law.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal law.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct case research and documentation.
