About the role

The State of Georgia’s Brunswick Judicial Circuit Public Defender Office is hiring an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 1) to represent indigent clients in Superior Court, Juvenile Court and Drug Court across five counties. This entry‑level position offers the chance to make a direct impact on the lives of Georgia’s citizens while working within a supportive public‑service environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide competent, zealous representation and advocacy for indigent clients.
• Manage a caseload that includes routine‑complexity matters in Superior, Juvenile and Drug Courts.
• Conduct legal research, draft motions, pleadings and other court documents.
• Participate in client interviews, investigations and negotiations.
• Perform other duties as required by the Public Defender Office.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• License to practice law in Georgia or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar exam and obtain licensure within one year of hiring.
• Current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
• Demonstrated commitment to indigent defense.
