Assistant Medical Director – Student Health Center

About the role

The Louisiana State University Student Health Center is seeking an Assistant Medical Director to provide student‑focused clinical leadership. Reporting to the Medical Director, you will deliver high‑quality primary and specialty care while supporting the center’s strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide evidence‑based primary care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, minor surgical procedures, and documentation in the electronic health record.
• Act as acting clinical lead in the Medical Director’s absence, overseeing clinical decision‑making, staff coordination, and urgent operational issues.
• Identify strategic opportunities and advise senior leadership on clinical and operational improvements.
• Support quality‑improvement activities, peer review, credentialing, policy updates, and accreditation processes.
• Collaborate with Our Lady of the Lake Health to advance divisional priorities.

Required profile

• Medical degree with board certification in a relevant specialty.
• Experience in primary care and leadership within a student health or similar setting.
• Strong commitment to collaborative care models and continuous quality improvement.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Clinical coding and documentation expertise.
• Ability to perform minor surgical procedures.
