Assistant Attorney General (HOURLY) - Civil Rights

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Office of the Attorney General is hiring an Assistant Attorney General on an hourly basis to work in the Civil Rights Section of the General Litigation Division. This position provides an opportunity to represent state officers and employees in civil‑rights actions while contributing to the mission of delivering high‑quality legal services to Georgia’s citizens.

Key responsibilities

• Represent state officers and employees sued in their individual and official capacities in civil‑rights lawsuits.
• Prepare and draft legal documents, motions, and briefs with strong writing standards.
• Conduct legal research and analysis on civil‑rights statutes and case law.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and other agency staff to develop case strategy.
• Work approximately 20 hours per week, adhering to the department’s procedural guidelines.

Required profile

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Member of the Georgia Bar in good standing.
• Strong legal writing abilities.
• Preference given to candidates with two or more years of civil‑rights related experience.
