Assistant Attorney General – Constitutional & Administrative Law

About the role

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell seeks a highly motivated attorney to join the Constitutional & Administrative Law Division of the Government Bureau in Springfield. The Assistant Attorney General will represent state agencies and officials in complex civil litigation and appeals in state and federal courts.

Key responsibilities

• Represent state officials and agencies in trial and appellate courts on matters involving statutes, regulations, policies, and agency decisions.
• Handle a substantial caseload of civil litigation, including constitutional challenges, statutory interpretation, and administrative law disputes.
• Prepare and argue appeals in the Appeals Court, Supreme Judicial Court, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
• Draft legal memoranda, briefs, and other court filings with strong legal writing.

Required profile

• Member of the Massachusetts Bar (or pending admission) and eligible for admission to the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts.
• Three to five years of relevant legal experience, preferably in constitutional or administrative law.
• Demonstrated interest in public service and collaborative work environment.

Required skills

• Familiarity with constitutional law, administrative law, civil and appellate procedure, and trial practice.
• Effective legal writing and ability to manage litigation independently.
