Assistant Attorney General – Business & Finance

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join the Business and Finance Section of the Commercial Transactions and Litigation Division. The attorney will provide high‑quality legal representation on matters affecting the state’s business, financial and property interests, with a primary focus on bankruptcy litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the State of Georgia in Chapter 7, 11, 12 and 13 bankruptcy cases in state and federal courts.
• Litigate general business disputes, including breach‑of‑contract actions, state procurement matters, bond proceedings and Hospital Acquisition Act issues.
• Prepare and file pleadings, motions, briefs and discovery requests; conduct legal research and draft memoranda of law.
• Work with expert witnesses, negotiate settlements and handle appeals.
• Participate in multistate working groups and respond to inquiries from agencies, legislators and the public.
• Attend continuing legal education seminars and present on relevant topics.

Required profile

• Bar admission and good standing in Georgia (or ability to become admitted).
• Demonstrated experience in bankruptcy and commercial litigation.
• Strong analytical and written communication abilities.
• Willingness to travel occasionally as case demands.

Required skills
