Arabic Speaking Journalistic Storytelling Writer

About the role

The client seeks a thoughtful journalist who can interview members of a children’s home in Egypt and turn those conversations into compelling English‑language stories. The work will document everyday life, preserve history, and connect personal experiences to the organization’s mission without a fundraising focus.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct recurring interviews in Arabic with leaders, caregivers, staff, and children.
• Write polished, narrative‑driven stories in English that capture humor, challenge, inspiration, and historical moments.
• Develop a weekly storytelling cadence for a Substack‑style publication and help prioritize a pipeline of story ideas.
• Handle sensitive personal stories with empathy, discretion, and cultural sensitivity.

Required profile

• Fluent spoken Arabic (strong preference for Egyptian Arabic) and excellent written English.
• Proven experience in journalism, narrative nonfiction, or human‑interest storytelling.
• Strong interviewing skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to preserve interviewees’ authentic voices.
• A warm, preferably feminine storytelling voice (not mandatory).

Required skills

• Interviewing and narrative writing in English.
• Ability to translate Arabic conversations into engaging English prose.
• Cultural sensitivity to Egyptian context and vulnerable children.
