Applied AI Field Researcher – Capabilities

About the role

Anthropic is seeking an Applied AI Field Researcher to accelerate the adoption of its frontier large‑language models. You will work directly with enterprise customers to design, fine‑tune, and evaluate customized AI solutions, while feeding real‑world insights back to the research team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute high‑quality fine‑tuning projects for strategic customers, delivering reliable, customized AI solutions.
• Collaborate with customers to identify improvement domains for Claude, then develop evaluation metrics, reinforcement‑learning environments, and training pipelines.
• Apply advanced machine‑learning techniques to optimise fine‑tuning strategies and build robust evaluation frameworks.
• Partner with account executives to translate customer needs into immediate solutions and longer‑term research opportunities.
• Serve as the primary technical advisor on model integration, deployment and best practices.
• Stay up‑to‑date with the latest advances in AI, fine‑tuning methods and RL for large language models.
• Travel occasionally to customer sites for workshops and implementation support.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience training or fine‑tuning deep‑learning models.
• Experience in a client‑facing or consulting role.
• Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Statistics or a related field.
• Proven ability to design evaluations, build RL environments, or contribute to model training pipelines.
