Agency Attorney II – Early Intervention Unit

About the role

The Early Intervention Unit of the New York City Police Department is seeking an Agency Attorney II to support the Early Intervention Program. The attorney will evaluate personnel cases, identify legal issues, and recommend corrective actions to improve officer performance and well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and assess officers who meet the threshold for inclusion in the Early Intervention Program.
• Conduct comprehensive reviews of police documents, reports, body‑camera footage, and related paperwork.
• Recommend appropriate interventions based on legal analysis and program guidelines.
• Review cases involving evidence suppression or court‑ordered indemnification, identify legal implications, and advise on program inclusion.
• Ensure compliance with ordered interventions and compile data for quarterly reporting.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the bar.
• Experience reviewing law‑enforcement records and providing legal analysis.
• Strong understanding of criminal procedure, evidence law, and internal police policies.
• Ability to collaborate with commanding officers, health and wellness staff, and the Early Intervention Committee.

Required skills

• Drafting of legal recommendations and compliance reports.
