Afterschool Coach

About the role

The Afterschool Coach will plan, lead and develop extracurricular activities that support students’ overall development, including skills, creativity, physical fitness, critical thinking and teamwork. The role also involves preparing and accompanying students to performances, competitions and tournaments while representing the school’s values.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and lead training sessions, classes, rehearsals and practical activities aligned with the assigned discipline.
• Design age‑appropriate activities and teaching strategies to develop technical, artistic or cognitive skills.
• Foster values such as discipline, respect, perseverance, teamwork and healthy competition.
• Supervise students during activities, rehearsals, performances and competitions, ensuring safety and appropriate conduct.
• Prepare and accompany students and teams for tournaments, competitions and external events.
• Monitor progress, provide feedback, adapt sessions to individual needs and maintain accurate attendance records.
• Manage materials, equipment and facilities responsibly and comply with safety protocols.
• Coordinate with program coordinators, communicate professionally with staff and participate in school‑wide activities.

Required profile

• Academic background, certification or demonstrated experience in the discipline to be taught.
• Previous experience working with children or adolescents.
• Experience as a coach, instructor, teacher or facilitator in the relevant discipline.
• Strong technical knowledge of the assigned activity (e.g., chess).
• Ability to manage groups of varying ages and skill levels.
• Experience in a school environment is preferred.
• Availability for extracurricular events outside regular school hours.
• Proficiency in English is an asset.

Required skills

• Chess instruction – knowledge of rules, openings, strategies and tactics.
