About the role
The Georgia Department of Public Safety is seeking an Accounting Technician 2 to support the Hazardous Materials Permits Unit within the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. This position serves as the primary contact for hazardous material transportation rules and permit requirements, handling a range of accounting functions for the unit.
Key responsibilities
- Balance and reconcile accounting records, statements, journals, ledgers, and reports.
- Collect fees, disburse payments, and post transactions to appropriate accounts.
- Maintain accurate records and files in compliance with GAAP.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, payroll preparation, and invoice requisitions.
- Monitor departmental budgets, identify variances, and assist with budget reporting.
- Prepare standard accounting reports and support audit requests.
- Respond to routine accounting inquiries from banks, auditors, vendors, and government entities.
Required profile
- Paraprofessional accounting experience under general supervision.
- Knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
- Ability to analyze financial reports for compliance.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record‑keeping.
